Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently tried out Apple’s new Vision Pro headset and came away unimpressed. In a new video, he explains why he believes Meta’s Quest 3 is far superior.
Key Critiques
In the video captured fully via Quest 3 mixed reality passthrough, Zuckerberg highlighted several disadvantages of Apple’s offering:
- 7x more expensive than the $1500 Quest 3
- Wired design gets in the way of movement
- A smaller field of view compared to Quest 3
- Dimmer display versus Quest’s brighter visuals
- Motion blur makes the image not as crisp
Where Apple Beats Quest
Zuckerberg did acknowledge a few strengths of the Vision Pro:
- Eye tracking is “really nice”
- Hand tracking is slightly better than Quest’s
Overall though, he firmly believes the Quest 3 is simply “a better product, period” for most mixed reality uses.
Meta’s ‘Open’ Approach
Zuckerberg couldn’t resist a subtle dig at Apple’s “closed” ecosystem approach, suggesting Meta will win out long-term by being the “open model” in the XR space, similar to how Microsoft dominated PCs.

Biased Opinions
Obviously, the Meta CEO is heavily biased in favor of his own company’s device. But it’s interesting to hear his direct thoughts on using both headsets.
The Vision Pro offers cutting-edge capabilities, but the Quest 3 provides strong mixed reality experiences at a much lower price point for now. The market will ultimately decide which approach resonates more with consumers.
