Rumors surrounding satellite connectivity in the Xiaomi 14 Pro have finally materialized, albeit exclusively in the Titanium-clad special edition model. Initially speculated upon, this feature was absent in the models launched in China last November.

The spotlight feature of the Titanium edition is its two-way satellite communication capability, offering a lifeline in emergencies when traditional network coverage fails. Operating through China’s Tiantong satellites, this feature provides users with added security and connectivity beyond terrestrial networks.

Pricing and Availability

Now available on Xiaomi’s online store in China, the Titanium edition is priced at CNY 7,000 for the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage variant. For comparison, the standard 16GB/1TB model retails at CNY 6,000, while the base Xiaomi 14 Ultra starts at CNY 6,500. Notably, the titanium variant of the 14 Ultra is priced at CNY 8,800.

Limited Availability and Compatibility

Xiaomi reaffirms that the Pro model will remain exclusive to the Chinese market. However, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, equipped with satellite communication, will have broader availability. Nevertheless, the compatibility with carriers outside China remains uncertain.

Both the Xiaomi 14 Pro Titanium edition and the Ultra variant boast the Xiaomi Pengpai T1 chip. Xiaomi has showcased the capabilities of the 14 Ultra through a demo video demonstrating satellite call establishment in the South China Sea.

The Titanium edition features a construction using 99% pure aerospace-grade titanium for the middle frame, supplemented by high-strength aluminum alloy. The front and back of the phone utilize Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass, distinguished by its orange trim highlight around the camera module.

Equipped with the same triple 50MP camera setup as the regular Pro model, the Titanium edition features a 1/1.31” sensor in the main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0, along with a 3.2x 75mm telephoto lens and a 115° ultra-wide lens with Autofocus (AF). The phone boasts a 6.73” 120Hz 12-bit LTPO display with QHD+ resolution and houses a 32MP front-facing camera.

Performance and Charging

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the phone is supported by a 4,880mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities.
