Alright folks, let’s recap the top stories from week 6 in the mobile tech world!
First up, OnePlus raised some eyebrows by justifying its “only” 5 years of software support, versus the 7 years offered by Samsung and Google. OnePlus argues that a shorter timeframe allows more focus on optimizing fluidity and quality over empty promises. Still, customers increasingly expect longevity in 2024 flagships.
Remember that seemingly legit render of the Nothing Phone (2a) mid-ranger that made the rounds? Turns out it was a total FAKE! Steve H. McFly deconfirmed the image as the real 2a design. Reports indicate it was actually a scrapped prototype from Nothing. And then Nothing themselves posted a teaser clearly showing a different phone. Busted!
On the Samsung front, the Galaxy A55 5G inched closer to launch with an NBTC certification revealing 25W charging speeds. Other leaks point to an Exynos 1480 processor and 8GB RAM configuration. Stay tuned for more on Samsung’s mid-range portfolio.

We also got word of an Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra in development – basically a rebranded ROG Phone 8 Pro by the looks of it. Familiar specs like Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 50MP triple cameras, 6.78” 144Hz screen, etc. Asus staying consistent it seems!
And Xiaomi confirmed its 14 series flagship is going global on Feb 25th, likely meaning the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Ultra for markets outside China. No word yet on a 14 Pro though.
Finally, an exclusive early preview of the Redmi A3 budget phone. This one will reportedly rock a 6.71″ 90Hz display, a first for Redmi’s entry-level A series. And arrive at an aggressive sub-$140 pricing.
