The Vivo X Fold3 Pro, initially launched in China in March, has now made its debut in India and Indonesia. This marks Vivo’s first foldable smartphone launch outside its home country. Available in Celestial Black for international markets, we’ve had the chance to get our hands on the Vivo X Fold3 Pro. Here are our initial impressions of this third-generation foldable.
Unboxing the Vivo X Fold3 Pro
The Vivo X Fold3 Pro arrives in a square-shaped box, similar to the X100 and X100 Pro. Inside the box, you’ll find a SIM ejector tool, essential documents, a charging cable, and a 120W power adapter. Notably, our Indian review unit didn’t include a protective case, though retail versions are expected to have one.
Design and Build Quality
Weighing in at 236g and measuring 11.2mm thick when folded, the Vivo X Fold3 Pro feels solid yet sleek. Unfolded, it slims down to 5.2mm. The cover screen is a 6.53″ 120Hz 8T LTPO AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2,748×1,172 pixels, 457 ppi, and an impressive peak brightness of 4,500 nits. It also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The screen is protected by Armor Glass, featuring a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a centered punch-hole for the 32MP selfie camera.
The Main Display
Unfolding the device reveals an 8.03″ main display with a resolution of 2,480×2,200 pixels and a 412 ppi pixel density. This display also boasts a 120Hz 8T LTPO AMOLED panel, 4,500 nits peak brightness, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision support. The right half of this screen houses a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, while the top-right corner features another 32MP selfie camera. Unlike the cover screen, the main display is covered with Super Tensile UTG and an impact-resistant film.
The Hinge
Vivo’s Carbon Fiber Ultra-Durable Hinge, weighing 14.98g, supports the foldable display, allowing it to stay open at angles between 60˚ and 120˚. The hinge ensures the phone remains nearly gapless when folded and is designed to withstand 500,000 folds without developing a crease. While a crease is present, it’s only noticeable from certain angles and becomes easy to overlook during regular use.
Camera Setup
The rear of the Vivo X Fold3 Pro features a circular “Big Eye” camera module with a fluted bezel design, inspired by luxury watches. This module includes:
- 50MP Primary Camera: With ZEISS T* coating.
- 50MP Ultrawide Camera: 119˚ field of view.
- 64MP Periscope Telephoto Camera: 3x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom.
Performance and Software
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and Vivo V3 chip, the X Fold3 Pro offers 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. It runs Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14 internationally, with a promise of three years of Android updates and four years of security patches. The device is IPX8-rated, indicating water resistance.
Battery and Charging
The Vivo X Fold3 Pro houses a 5,700 mAh battery, supporting 100W wired charging, which can charge from 1% to 100% in just 31 minutes. It also supports 50W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
Conclusion
The Vivo X Fold3 Pro stands out with its premium build, impressive displays, and robust camera setup, making it a strong competitor against devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5. We’ll be conducting a thorough review soon, so stay tuned to see how the Vivo X Fold3 Pro performs in real-world scenarios.
