While pioneering the mainstream foldable phone market, Samsung’s Galaxy Z series devices have consistently trailed Chinese rivals when it comes to thickness in the closed state. For example, 2023’s excellent Honor Magic V2 measures just 10.1mm shut versus the chunkier Galaxy Z Fold5 at 13.4mm.
However, fresh rumors suggest Samsung is finally embracing thinness for its next iteration, with reports claiming the Galaxy Z Fold6 will be the company’s slimmest foldable ever at a svelte 11mm close.
Although not record-breaking, this would slice over 2mm off the Z Fold5’s girth, representing a nearly 20% reduction. And for Samsung specifically, it would mark a major leap forward for handling and portability compared to earlier entries.

Of course, with the Fold6 likely five months from launch, details remain unconfirmed. But such a long-overdue move to help the Z series better compete makes obvious sense. After kickstarting the foldable wave in 2019, it risks falling behind rivals on core metrics like thickness.
If accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold6 is shaping up as Samsung’s thinnest premium folding phone yet would pair nicely with other expected upgrades when it debuts alongside the Flip6 and recently teased Galaxy Ring wearable this summer.
