Shortly after launch, some Samsung Galaxy S24 owners began reporting lackluster camera performance with strangely blurry or muddy textures in images. In response, Samsung representatives officially confirmed a firmware update is already in the works to address these concerns.

On Samsung’s South Korea community forums, users highlighted uncharacteristically soft and detail-lacking photos from their shiny new flagships. A moderator chimined in acknowledging that while color science has intentionally shifted towards more natural reproduction, no other major imaging changes were intended.

Our Galaxy S24 and S24+ review units have so far avoided any such glaring flaws. We did notice somewhat more restrained processing and additional grain in select scenarios as Samsung pulls back slightly on its typically heavy-handed imaging filters.

But for affected users complaining of almost out-of-focus blurring, it seems Samsung may have some tuning yet to do. Fortunately, they already have an update in progress to iron out any bugs introduced by recent algorithm tweaks.

Considering the excellent reputation of Galaxy phone cameras, we expect any teething issues to get sorted promptly via software. Still, it’s a reminder that increasingly heavy computational photography does introduce risks even for seasoned players like Samsung. We look forward to seeing the improved results once the first post-launch camera firmware rolls out shortly.
