In a move that many anticipated, Samsung has officially confirmed that Galaxy AI will be integrated into the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 foldables, expected to be unveiled in early July.
Enhancing Foldables with Galaxy AI
Won-Joon Choi, Samsung EVP & Head of Mobile R&D Office, Mobile eXperience Business, announced in a blog post that the company plans to “further optimize the Galaxy AI experience for the upcoming foldable devices”. He emphasized the synergy between Samsung’s versatile foldable technology and Galaxy AI, stating, “Our foldables are the most versatile and flexible form factor in Samsung Galaxy, and when combined with Galaxy AI, these two complementary technologies will together unlock all new possibilities”.
The Hybrid AI Approach
Samsung aims to revolutionize mobile experiences with a “hybrid AI approach”, which it deems “the most practical and reliable solution” to cater to consumer needs and maintain a competitive edge. This approach balances “the instant responsiveness and extra privacy assurance of on-device AI” with “the versatility of cloud-based AI” through collaborations with industry leaders, offering a range of daily life functions.
Expanding Live Translate
Samsung will soon expand its Live Translate AI feature to support third-party messaging apps and voice calls. This integration will utilize Samsung’s on-device AI language translation model, ensuring that personal data remains secure and is not shared outside the phone when using Live Translate.
The Future of On-Device AI
Choi expects more mobile AI features to be contained on-device as NPU (Neural Processing Unit) advancements continue “at a blazing fast speed”. This progression will enhance the power and functionality of mobile AI, making it more integral to everyday smartphone use.
