It seems Qualcomm has a new Snapdragon processor in the works, but determining the exact details is proving challenging.
Leaker Digital Chat Station first brought attention to a chip codenamed SM8635 on Weibo. While they didn’t share the marketing name, the numbering scheme points to a Snapdragon 8 series chip.
Specifically, the SM8635 is said to use ARM’s latest Cortex-X4 core clocked at 2.9GHz along with an Adreno 735 GPU. Performance metrics shared also position it above 2021’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, with an AnTuTu score of over 1.7 million.
This level of power seems to match with either a “Lite” variant of the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or possibly a speculative “Snapdragon 8s Gen 2” naming scheme.

Here’s where things get murky. Fellow leaker Roland Quandt also chimed in, claiming an almost identical SM7675 chip is in development. The SM76xx numbering suggests a Snapdragon 7 series processor instead.
So which is it? Unfortunately, more waiting is in order for clarity. Multiple phone models like the Poco F6, Redmin Note 13 Turbo, and an unnamed iQOO device are already rumored to feature the mystery chip.
Either way, it seems Qualcomm has something new cooking that will likely slot somewhere between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Gen 3 in performance. Clearly more light needs to be shed before we’ll know exactly how Qualcomm decides to position this mysterious new SoC.
