Qualcomm has discreetly introduced the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, a “step-down” model in its chipset lineup. The new mobile platform appeared on Qualcomm’s website without much fanfare, likely because it isn’t a particularly groundbreaking chip.
Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 Key Details
The Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 comes in two variants:
- 4G Variant: SM-6370
- 5G Variant: SM6375-AC
These model numbers suggest the chipset’s origins, with SM6375 being the Snapdragon 695, a 2021 chip rehashed later that year as the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 (SM4375). The Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, like its predecessors, is built on a 6nm TSMC node.
Specifications
- CPU: Two clusters:
- Two Cortex A78 cores clocked at up to 2.3 GHz
- Six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz
- GPU: Adreno 619
- Modem: FastConnect 6200
- Memory and Storage: Supports LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage
- Camera ISP: Supports up to 1080p@60fps video capture
The CPU cores have been overclocked slightly compared to older models, but the camera ISP’s 1080p@60fps video capture capability seems underwhelming for 2024.
Comparison with Snapdragon 6 Gen 1
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 from 2022 is more advanced, featuring:
- Fabrication: 4nm process
- CPU: Four Cortex-A78 cores
- GPU: Adreno 710
- Memory and Storage: LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage
- Modem: FastConnect 6700
- Camera ISP: 4K@30fps video capture
These enhancements make the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 superior to the new Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 in several aspects.
Upcoming Devices
Devices featuring the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 are expected soon, with the Motorola G85 being a likely candidate based on recent benchmark leaks.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 may not be the most thrilling update, but it will still power upcoming mid-range devices, offering a balance between performance and cost.
