Oppo has unveiled plans to strengthen its AI capabilities through a new Oppo AI Center, which will explore innovative user-centric features enabled by artificial intelligence. As a first initiative, Oppo announced its Reno11 smartphone series launched last year will receive new generative AI functionalities in Q2 2023 for users worldwide.

While Oppo hasn’t detailed the full scope of AI features coming to Reno11 devices, the company confirmed the inclusion of an AI Eraser tool and emphasized the global rollout – rather than limiting these capabilities to just the Chinese market.

In a statement, Oppo’s Chief Product Officer Pete Lau suggested the emergence of AI represents the third major transformation in mobile technology following feature phones and modern smartphones. Lau predicts AI will revolutionize both the smartphone industry itself and change how users interact with their devices.

First introduced in late 2022, the Reno11 lineup consists of three models – the Reno11, Reno11 Pro, and Reno11 F. It remains to be seen whether Oppo plans to grow the Reno11 family or instead shift focus to a Reno12 series later this year.

By pre-announcing plans to elevate the existing Reno11 globally with AI, Oppo signals a commitment to pushing intelligent features to more mid-range devices rather than restricting innovation to premium lineups. This reflects a wider industry movement to democratize groundbreaking advancements.
