OnePlus has announced it will provide full refunds to customers who purchased the 256GB storage model of the OnePlus 12R smartphone.
The refunds are being offered after OnePlus mistakenly advertised that the phone contained faster UFS 4.0 storage when it uses slower UFS 3.1.
OnePlus President Kinder Liu confirmed in a statement that all buyers of the 256GB OnePlus 12R are eligible for a full refund if they return the device by March 16th.
If you’ve received a OnePlus 12R 256GB variant and want to discuss the situation with the file system type on your phone, please contact Customer Service through your usual channel. They will be able to discuss next steps with you, up to and including a refund until 16th March 2024.

Liu said affected customers can contact OnePlus customer service to begin the refund process. He expressed hope the quick action demonstrates that OnePlus values its relationship with customers.

The company had claimed the OnePlus 12R would offer cutting-edge UFS 4.0 storage. But Liu later acknowledged it only equipped the phone with last-gen UFS 3.1 after user testing revealed slower speeds.
The refund program aims to make amends with customers who paid a premium expecting faster storage technology.
OnePlus maintains confidence in the OnePlus 12R’s overall performance despite the storage issue. But it is providing unsatisfied 256GB buyers a refund option until mid-March.
