While Samsung has been making waves with the AI-powered capabilities of its new Galaxy S24 lineup, OnePlus has quietly rolled out its own AI offerings to the OnePlus 12 and 11 models in China.
Through a recent ColorOS software update, OnePlus device owners can now take advantage of new features like an AI Summarizer to generate automated summaries of phone calls, complete with key details such as timing and location. There’s also an AIGC Remover tool that lets you erase unwanted subjects from your photos, not unlike the AI photo editing available on Samsung and Google Pixel phones these days.
Additionally, the update brings an Article Summarizer feature that can provide quick summaries of articles with just a single tap. Beyond AI capabilities, the update also enables handy options like unlocking your phone with the fingerprint scanner without waking the screen first. You can now control music playback via QQ Music on the Always-On Display and choose whether you want the screen recording indicator to appear in the status bar or a floating window.
Specific to the OnePlus 12 update, there are noted improvements to Bluetooth, NFC, and WLAN network stability and compatibility. OnePlus says connectivity issues in “subway-like conditions” have also been addressed.
Currently, the AI features are limited to the Chinese variant of ColorOS on the OnePlus 12 and 11 models. But given that ColorOS and OxygenOS share a similar foundation, there’s certainly potential for these capabilities to make their way to OnePlus devices more broadly down the line.
