Apple recently announced the upcoming major versions of its operating systems for phones, tablets, watches, and computers. However, some older devices won’t be supported. We’ll discuss iPhones separately; here’s the update for iPads, Watches, and Macs.

iPads

iPadOS 18 will be available for most supported tablets, but there are exceptions. The 2018 iPad (6th gen) is discontinued, with only the 2019 (7th gen) and newer models receiving the update. The 12.9” iPad Pro from 2017 (2nd gen) will also be left out, making the 2018 (3rd gen) model the oldest large Pro to receive iPadOS 18.

The 10.5” iPad Pro from 2017, known as the 1st gen, is discontinued. The 11” Pro from 2018, also listed as 1st gen, remains supported, which might be slightly confusing. This 2018 model is now the oldest small Pro to get the update.

Apple Watches

watchOS 11 will be available for the Apple Watch Series 6 and newer, including the Apple Watch SE (2022), also known as the 2nd generation. This means the Apple Watch Series 4 and 5, along with the original Watch SE, won’t get the update and will stay on watchOS 10.5.

Macs

The situation with macOS is simpler. Most Intel-powered models will receive macOS Sequoia. However, the MacBook Air models from 2018 and 2019 (using 8th gen Intel processors) are excluded, while the 2020 MacBook Air (with a 10th gen Intel CPU) remains supported.

All Apple Silicon Macs will get Sequoia. Newly released iPad Pros with the M4 chip and new iPad Airs with the M2 will also be updated.

Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence is coming exclusively to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, as well as iPads and Macs with the M1 chip or later. Therefore, some iPads and Macs will receive iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia but won’t have access to Apple Intelligence.
