In an exciting development, Samsung is reportedly gearing up to launch a significantly slimmer foldable smartphone. Following the recent unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, which measures 5.6mm when unfolded and 12.1mm thick when folded, the next iteration aims to break new ground in terms of design and portability.
Samsung’s Slim Ambitions
According to industry sources cited by KED Global, TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung’s MX team, has instructed engineers to develop an “extra slim foldable smartphone.” The goal is to create a device as thin as the Galaxy S24 when folded, which would be a remarkable achievement given the S24’s 7.6mm thickness.

- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: 12.1mm (folded)
- Galaxy S24: 7.6mm
- Galaxy S24+: 7.7mm
- Galaxy S24 Ultra: 8.6mm
If Samsung manages to match the thickness of the S24 Ultra, the next foldable would be 3.5mm slimmer than the Fold6, representing a significant reduction from last year’s Fold5 by 1.3mm.
Weight Reduction Goals
In addition to slimming down the device, Samsung is reportedly focused on reducing the weight of its next foldable smartphone. The aim is to bring the weight below 239g, which is the current weight of the Fold6.
Future Plans: Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim
Samsung is also rumored to be working on a Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim, set to be unveiled by the end of 2024. This model is expected to be just 10mm thick, featuring an 8″ folding screen, larger than the Fold6’s 7.6″ display.
