Apple will likely wait until 2025 for the next iPhone SE launch after the 2022 model, skipping 2024. The big change will be an OLED screen, a first for the affordable iPhone SE lineup.

Previous iPhone SE models used LCDs, but the 2025 version is expected to adopt an OLED panel similar to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.

According to a new report from Korea, Apple is negotiating with Samsung, BOE, and Tianma for OLED supply. Samsung has offered the lowest price at $30 per panel, followed by BOE at $35 and Tianma at $40. Apple countered with just $20 per panel.

The 6.1-inch OLED is expected to match the iPhone 14’s 1170×2532 resolution, 1200-nit peak brightness, and possibly Ceramic Shield.

Samsung and BOE have strong yields for these panels already, while Tianma lags. Samsung has the advantage of existing iPhone 14 tooling it can leverage.

The move to OLED allows Apple to bring its latest display tech to the low-cost iPhone SE range in 2025. Samsung is bidding aggressively, hoping to deter BOE. The OLED shift will be the main upgrade for the next iPhone SE model.
