New leaked images reveal that the upcoming iPhone 16 will have a redesigned rear camera module, with the lenses stacked vertically rather than horizontally.
This vertical dual-lens arrangement aligns with rumors that have circulated about the iPhone 16’s camera design. It also resembles Samsung’s approach to rear camera positioning.
The leaked images come from notable leaker Majin Bu. They have also been independently verified with sources in the industry by MacRumors. According to these sources, the images show the main camera chassis for Apple’s “I-34” camera project. This new camera system is intended for the base iPhone 16 model set to launch this September.
Switching to a vertical dual-lens setup may enable new camera capabilities on the iPhone 16, like Spatial Video recording. However, the change seems more driven by design preference than functionality.
In addition to the revamped camera module, the iPhone 16 is expected to inherit features from the iPhone 15 Pro models. This includes the Action button that uses haptics to simulate a mechanical shutter button. The iPhone 16 may also gain a new Capture button with force-sensor technology on its right side.
