The first peek at the future of Android is here. Google has released Android 15 Developer Preview 1 today, kicking off the long rollout leading to the stable version later this year.
This initial preview build focuses on new developer-facing capabilities coming in Android 15. Google will follow with a second preview in March and the first public beta in April.
Key additions in Developer Preview 1 include partial screen-sharing support, allowing users to share specific app windows rather than the full display. There are also extended MIDI 2.0 support and performance improvements.
On the security front, Android 15 brings file signature protections to prevent tampering and malware. And there’s greater control over camera hardware and health data types.
This early build is aimed at app developers to start prepping for Android 15 compatibility. Broader public beta testing will come down the road.
