Google recently unveiled its new AI assistant called Gemini. While Gemini has already begun rolling out in certain regions to replace Google Assistant on Android/iOS, expansion to headphones is also apparently underway.
Gemini Coming to More Devices
Code examined in the Google app beta (v15.6) contained this telling message:
Gemini mobile app is working on expanding availability to make it accessible on your headphones
So Google is actively developing Gemini integration for audio headphones/earbuds.

Current Support Limitations
Some headphone models today feature a button to trigger Google Assistant. However, even with Gemini available on the connected smartphone, headphones like the Pixel Buds Pro still leverage the old Google Assistant voice and feature set.
Bringing Gemini properly to headphones will address this disjointed experience.
What to Expect from Gemini on Headphones
Given headphones don’t have a screen interface, Gemini on audio wearables will likely focus on:
- Concise audio responses
- Playback speed controls
- Overall tight integration with mobile device Gemini app
Google is still prioritizing smartphone availability in Europe and other regions first. But headphones seem to be the next target for its new Gemini assistant once ready.
