Apple recently unveiled iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, set for release this fall, with a public beta program starting next month. Meanwhile, iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 remain the latest versions in use. Adoption Rates for iOS 17
As of June 9:
- 77% of all active iPhones are running iOS 17.
- This is slightly less than the 81% of iPhones running iOS 16 as of May 30 last year.
Adoption Rates for iPadOS 17
As of June 9:
- 68% of all active iPads are running iPadOS 17.
- This is also lower than the 71% of iPads running iPadOS 16 in May of last year.
Adoption Rates for Newer Devices
For devices introduced in the last four years:

- 86% of iPhones and 77% of iPads were running iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, respectively, as of June 9.
Clearly, the last generation of OS releases hasn’t seen as high an adoption rate as previous ones. Now, it’s time for the AI-infused iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 to shine. We’ll see how these new versions fare around this time next year.
