With memory, ChatGPT will be able to recall specifics that users tell it to remember. It can also pick up on details itself over time. The more you chat with ChatGPT, the better its memory will become. You’ll start to notice improvements and more personalized responses.

This memory upgrade has many potential uses. You can have ChatGPT remember personal details about you and important people in your life. That way, future conversations are easier and you don’t have to repeat yourself as much.

You can also have ChatGPT remember your preferences, like how you like something formatted when asking it to write for you. It can recall your tone of voice and writing style and automatically apply them later on.

For coding, you can tell ChatGPT your preferred languages and frameworks just once. It will then remember them when you give it programming tasks, streamlining the process.

Teachers can have it remember they prefer 50-minute lesson plans. ChatGPT can then adapt to that automatically for future lesson planning.

While the memory allows ChatGPT to recall information, you can also make it forget specifics when desired. You just have to tell it to delete certain memories, or clear all memory in settings. Note that deleting a chat won’t erase related memories – you have to manually delete the memory itself.

There’s also the option to use ChatGPT temporarily without memory. These chats won’t be recorded, used to train AI models, or able to access memories. Or you can turn memory off completely through settings, though you then can’t use any existing memories.

Memory looks to be a major upgrade that will make conversations more natural and personalized. It’s an exciting development for ChatGPT as it continues evolving.
