The European smartphone market experienced its first quarter of positive growth in Q1 after twelve consecutive quarters of declining smartphone shipments. According to the latest Canalys report, 33.1 million smartphones were shipped in Europe during the January 1 – March 31 period, representing a 2% year-on-year growth. This quarter also saw the highest recorded share of premium devices (priced at $800 or more), accounting for 32% of all shipments.
Samsung Retains Top Spot
Samsung maintained its leading position with a 37% market share, driven by strong demand for its Galaxy S24 series. The flagship S-series saw 4.3 million shipments in Europe, marking a 58% increase compared to the same period last year.
Apple and Xiaomi Follow
Apple secured second place with a 22% market share. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro were the top two best-selling phones, with 2.6 million and 1.6 million units sold, respectively. Xiaomi came in third with a 16% market share, fueled by strong sales of budget devices like the Redmi 13C (1.2 million) and Redmi Note 13 4G (1.1 million).
Other Key Players
Motorola shipped 2.1 million units, capturing 6% of the market, while Honor had 1 million shipments, securing a 3% market share.
Future Outlook
Canalys analysts predict a modest 1% growth for the European smartphone market for the remainder of the year.
