When Samsung unveiled the mid-range Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 earlier this week, eagle-eyed observers noticed an intriguing twist: the company announced that it wouldn’t be selling the Galaxy A55 in the US market, while the A35 would make its way across the pond. This decision raised eyebrows, as it marks a departure from Samsung’s usual strategy of offering the A5x models in the US while skipping the A3x variants.

At the time, Samsung remained tight-lipped about the reasoning behind this move, leaving us all to speculate. However, the guessing game is now over, as the tech giant has issued a statement to Android Authority, shedding light on the rationale behind this intriguing decision.

Here’s what Samsung had to say about the situation:

We can confirm that Galaxy A35 5G will be coming to the US market and look forward to sharing more details in the coming weeks. While we will not be carrying Galaxy A55 5G at this time, consumers can still take advantage of our Galaxy innovation at great value with Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 FE.

Upon initial inspection, you might assume that the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 FE, being flagship models, would be priced significantly higher than the A55. However, that’s where you’d be wrong. Surprisingly, both of these devices are priced within a mere $50 range of what the A55 would have cost in the US market, had it made the journey.

Let’s break it down: the A55, with its mid-range specifications, would have struggled to hold its own against the more compelling offerings of the S23 and S23 FE, at least in the US market. Given the competitive pricing of Samsung’s flagship and “Fan Edition” models, the A55 would have been a tough sell, with little to no redeeming qualities to justify its price tag.

The story, however, takes a different turn in other regions, such as Europe, where the S23 and S23 FE are still priced higher than the A55. In these markets, the A55 might present a more compelling value proposition, even if the S23 and S23 FE still offer better value when you consider their superior specifications.

As for the A35, its expected lower price point in the US market makes it a more viable option for budget-conscious consumers, allowing Samsung to cater to a broader range of customers.

In essence, Samsung’s decision to skip the A55 in the US is a strategic move, aimed at streamlining its product lineup and offering consumers the best value for their money. By focusing on the Galaxy S23 and S23 FE, Samsung ensures that budget-conscious buyers in the US still have access to top-tier performance and features without breaking the bank.
