Bose has unveiled an innovative new set of wireless earbuds called the Ultra Open Earbuds. These feature an open-ear design that lets you fully hear your surroundings while listening to audio.
The key to the open-ear experience is Bose’s proprietary OpenAudio technology. This projects sound directly into the ear canal via a transducer and acoustic structure. There is minimal audio leakage so only the wearer can hear the audio clearly.
Bose also includes its Immersive Audio feature powered by digital signal processing. This creates a spatial audio effect to mimic sound coming from all around you. There are Still and Motion modes tailored to different activities.

Despite the open design, the earbuds utilize Qualcomm’s latest aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codec for lossless, low-latency playback. Other features include Auto Volume adjustment, Google Fast Pair, and IPX4 water resistance.
Battery life is rated at up to 7.5 hours of continuous playback, or 19.5 hours total with the charging case. Just a 10-minute quick charge provides around 2 hours of listening time.
The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are available now priced at $299. The unique open ear-wearing style combined with spatial audio gives these earbuds an intriguing advantage over traditional noise-isolating designs.
