If you’ve been dreaming of an ultra-premium Apple Watch Ultra with a cutting-edge microLED display, you better sit down for this news.
According to the latest buzz from supply chain experts at The Elec, Apple’s fanciest Watch with microLED tech is not coming anytime soon. Try the year 2027 at the absolute earliest!
Here’s the deal – microLED screens are still crazy expensive to produce. The display on the current Watch Ultra already costs Apple around $40. But the microLED version? Try $150. That’s way too rich for Apple’s blood.

They need the manufacturers to fine-tune production and shave costs before microLED makes financial sense. Right now, the huge price tag would destroy Apple’s margins on a luxury Watch Ultra.
So while microLED would be an incredible tech upgrade, enabling insane brightness and efficiency, Apple simply can’t swallow the costs yet.
This report predicts 2027 as the first possible launch timeframe, or even later! So don’t hold your breath for the Watch Ultra to get a microLED display in the next few years.
I know, it stinks to hear this news if you wanted the ultimate Apple Watch. But clearly, the tech is still too new and expensive. Fingers crossed production improves sooner rather than later. For now, looks like we’ll be sticking with OLED displays on the Watch Ultra into the late 2020s!
