What to Expect

Based on leaks and rumors, here are some of the enhancements Android 15 is expected to bring:

  • Private Spaces – Allows locking select apps so they don’t appear in your main app drawer or recent menu for privacy.
  • Return of lock screen widgets – Google may re-introduce interactive widgets on the lock screen after removing this capability in Android 12.
  • Full-screen apps – Apps will be able to display content under the status and navigation bars for a more immersive experience.
  • Additional UI refinements – More polish and improvements to Android’s user interface and design language.

Supported Devices

The Android 15 DP1 build will be compatible with Google’s recent Pixel phones including the Pixel 6 and newer models. Don’t expect support for older Pixel or non-Pixel devices until later previews.

Should You Install?

While the developer previews give an early glimpse of new features, they are really intended for app developers rather than general users. The builds often contain bugs and reliability issues.

However, if you have a compatible Pixel device and don’t mind dealing with occasional instability, you can download and flash the Android 15 DP1 firmware manually when it becomes available. This will allow you to check out the changes coming to Android as Google continues developing the OS up until the public beta and final release later this year.

Stay tuned for the official Android 15 Developer Preview 1 release today!
