Exciting upgrades are reportedly in store for Apple’s iPad Pro and iPad Air lines later this year. According to a new rumor, both tablets will see refreshed models introduced by the end of March 2023.

For the first time, Apple plans to extend its dual screen size approach beyond just the Pro series to the more mainstream iPad Air as well. An 11-inch iPad Air borrowing its predecessor’s design is said to be launching, along with an all-new 12.9-inch Max variant – similar to the strategy employed across recent iPhone generations.

As for measurements, the 11-inch iPad Pro model will be marginally smaller than before at 249.7 x 177.5 x 5.1 mm, while the larger 12.9-inch version is tipped to measure 281.5 x 215.5 x 5 mm. That latter thickness represents a noteworthy reduction over the current 12.9-inch Pro’s 6.4 mm chassis. The slimming is attributed to a switch to more advanced OLED display panels in the upcoming Pros.

Both new iPad Pro editions are rumored to run Apple’s next-generation M3 silicon. Meanwhile, it remains unclear if the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Airs will adopt M3 or simply upgrade to M2 chips. Accessory makers are already preparing cases for the range of incoming tablets ahead of expected availability by late March. An official announcement from Apple may transpire via press release instead of a dedicated launch event.
